40 Things I’ve Learned in 40 Years
Reflections on Life, Love, Parenting, and the Power of Yoga
Turning 40 is a milestone that invites reflection—and gratitude. As a yoga and movement teacher, mother of three, and lifelong student of life, here are 40 powerful lessons I’ve gathered over the years. These insights have come from personal growth, parenting, teaching yoga, and simply showing up—day after day—with an open heart.
Whether you’re preparing for parenthood, finding your community, or simply looking for guidance on your journey, I hope these truths offer light and connection.

What is the Difference Between Prenatal Yoga and Regular Yoga?
For many seasoned yogis, it can be tempting to continue with their regular yoga practice throughout pregnancy. While this may be perfectly fine for some, choosing a dedicated prenatal yoga class can offer unique benefits that are specifically designed for the journey of pregnancy. Let's explore the key differences and why prenatal yoga might be the best choice for you.

What have you learned since taking classes with PYLV?
I've learned that self care is more valuable than most people realize, and that growing a human inside of me and preparing for birth is essentially like training for a marathon. Prioritizing routine, and having PYLV push me just a little bit past my comfort level each time, has made me become the strongest I've ever been. I also attribute my relatively "boring" pregnancy to all the lessons I have learned through the PYLV community.

When did you start taking classes with PYLV?
I started taking PYLV 2 weeks after I had Sora. I was looking up classes that the different hospitals offered and saw that Baby and Me Yoga was one of them! I have practiced yoga for many years and loved all the benefits it provides me. I thought it was a great idea to share that love of yoga with my baby. After attending the first class of Baby and Me Yoga, I shared how the experience went with my husband who also enjoys yoga. Kyle has regularly attended classes with Sora and me after that.

What is your favorite yoga pose?
I have so many favorite yoga poses but if I am to pick one…shavasana. The reason I choose shavasana is because thru my postnatal healing I have struggled with quieting my mind and letting go. Although it is not a physically challenging pose for me, it is mentally challenging and that is why I love it. I have learned to release and let go and relax my mind thru shavasana.

What would you tell a new parent considering taking prenatal or baby & me yoga classes?
I 100% recommend classes at PYLV. Of course the classes themselves are great, you learn a lot and move your body in ways geared towards motherhood, but what really stands out to me is the community and safe space that has been curated. As a more introverted person, that has been something difficult to find. Everyone is so welcoming and it’s easily the highlight of my week!

What have you learned since taking classes with PYLV?
Like Angela says, “motion is lotion!” I’ve been regularly taking prenatal yoga classes since June and prenatal/ postnatal Pilates classes since September. I can’t thank Angela enough for all the amazing work she does for mommas and their families! I feel like I actualized my goals of becoming a healthier and stronger mom for my family.

What would you tell a new parent considering taking prenatal or baby & me yoga classes?
I highly recommend taking prenatal and /or baby classes because we learn so much from the classes and attendees. I thought the best way to learn is from real-life experiences. Parents are also able to bond and become friends with each other.
