October 2025 Student of the Month: Virginia

Meet Virginia

My name is Virginia Ramirez. I recently welcomed my daughter five months ago - she is my only child and my greatest joy. For the past 10 years, I have worked as a Health Program Manager for the State of Nevada, where I focus on ensuring that individuals with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to live as independently as possible and enjoy the highest quality of life throughout their lifespan.

Outside of work, I have a passion for travel and exploring the beauty of different cultures. So far, I have been fortunate to visit 37 countries, and I am always excited to discover new places and perspectives around the world.

When did you start taking classes with PYLV?

I began taking prenatal classes with PYLV when I was 7 weeks pregnant and continued through week 41 of my pregnancy. After giving birth, I returned 8 weeks postpartum to join the Baby and Me yoga classes.

What have you learned since taking classes with PYLV?
I have learned to take mindful moments to breathe and move, which helps me release daily stress and stay more present and balanced.

What is your favorite yoga pose?

How has your practice impact your parenting?

My practice has reminded me to give myself grace and take things one day at a time. When I am having a hard day, I take a moment to breathe and meditate so I can reset and face the rest of the day as a parent.

What would you tell a new parent considering taking prenatal or baby & me yoga classes?

I would tell any pregnant woman to take prenatal yoga—it helps you both emotionally and physically. It really supported me throughout my pregnancy, keeping me centered and calm. More importantly, it helped me during labor. I used the poses, breathing techniques, and meditation I learned in class to relax during the early stages of labor, and it even allowed me to rest and take short naps. Thanks to prenatal yoga, I had a smooth pregnancy and a positive labor experience.

Staying active while pregnant is so important, and prenatal yoga is a wonderful way to move your body safely while also connecting with a supportive community of other pregnant women.

Baby & Me yoga has also been an incredible experience. Postpartum life can be challenging, and having a class to look forward to made such a difference. It helped me bond with my baby while also taking care of myself, and I loved connecting with other moms and sharing our experiences.

I would highly recommend doing both prenatal and Baby & Me yoga. I have been fortunate to have most of my classes with Flavia—she is so welcoming and truly meets you where you are on your journey.
