Open to Receive
There’s something powerful about the moment we decide to open—to possibility, to change, to something new. As we step into August, I invite you to explore what it means to open to receive—not just in a passive way, but in a courageous, intentional, wholehearted way.
A Personal Turning Point
Recently, I made a decision that’s been tugging at my heart for a long time: I’m going back to school. It’s a big step, and honestly, a little scary. Our family is in the midst of change—my husband’s job is shifting, and that uncertainty sparked deep reflection. I told him, “I won’t regret trying. I’ll only regret letting the time pass and never giving it a shot.”
So here I am, saying yes. Yes to growth. Yes to challenge. Yes to effort, even if it doesn’t go perfectly. I’m choosing to open myself to what's possible—even when the path is unclear.
“What you seek is seeking you.”
In the Heart of Parenting
Parenting has taught me this lesson again and again. Each day brings a new version of my children—and a new version of myself. When we welcomed another child into our family, I felt the magnitude of transformation that happens through the simple act of opening our hearts wider.
Every tantrum, every cuddle, every question—they’re invitations. Opportunities to receive wisdom, humility, and grace in unexpected forms. We may not always feel ready, but the truth is: growth doesn’t wait for perfect timing. It meets us in the messiness of daily life.
Golden Thread Breathing
To support us this month, we return to the breath—a steady companion through transition. Our breathing practice is Golden Thread Breathing, a calming, nourishing practice taught by Uma Dinsmore-Tuli.
Try it:
Sit or lie down comfortably.
Close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Inhale gently through the nose.
Exhale softly through parted lips, as though blowing a fine golden thread into the air.
Focus on the exhale—make it long, smooth, and silent.
Repeat for 5–10 rounds or as long as feels good.
Movements to Support Openness
In your physical practice, consider these postures that embody openness, grounding, and receptivity.
1. Table Pose & Variations: Feel the support of the earth beneath you. A reminder that a strong foundation allows us to expand safely.
2. Goddess Pose – Tap into your feminine strength, intuition, and power. There’s a kind of quiet fierceness in standing wide and open.
3. Dancer Pose – A favorite for balance, grace, and surrender. This pose asks us to trust, to wobble, and to open our hearts—without knowing what’s coming next.
So here’s to showing up with open hands, open hearts, and just enough courage to say yes—even when we don’t have it all figured out.
May we all soften a little more this month. Trust a little deeper. And remember:
You don’t have to chase what’s meant for you. Just be open enough to receive it.
