November 2024 Student of the Month: Jackie

Tell us about yourself?

I want to start off by saying that I’m honored to be PYLV’s November Student of the Month! My name is Jackie and I’m married to my other-half, Branden. We have a very adventurous toddler named Celeste. Currently, I’m 9 months pregnant with a baby boy and we’re eagerly awaiting his arrival.

When did you start taking classes with PYLV?

I began taking classes with PYLV when I was 15 weeks pregnant and I wish I could have started sooner! I developed preeclampsia when I was pregnant with my daughter and experienced severe edema. Because of this, I made a promise to myself to lead a healthier lifestyle. Thankfully, my symptoms aren’t as severe this time around and I feel stronger overall.

What have you learned since taking classes with PYLV?

Like Angela says, “motion is lotion!” I’ve been regularly taking prenatal yoga classes since June and prenatal/ postnatal Pilates classes since September. I can’t thank Angela enough for all the amazing work she does for mommas and their families! I feel like I actualized my goals of becoming a healthier and stronger mom for my family.

What is your favorite yoga pose?

Child’s pose is my favorite! There’s something about surrendering your body after sustaining a difficult yoga pose or completing a spicy/ challenging movement during a prenatal/ postnatal Pilates class.

How has your practice impact your parenting? My practice has truly made me a better and stronger parent! I’m able to manage my stress and quiet my mind. My body also feels less achy, which means I can chase after my toddler for hours and get those steps in!

What would you tell a new parent considering taking prenatal or baby & me yoga classes?

If you’re new to the yoga scene and are considering taking prenatal/ postnatal yoga classes, I urge you to take as many as you can! Your body and mind will thank you for it! I’m a novice and sometimes struggle with certain poses, but I’ve gained confidence and knowledge with every class I’ve taken. Thank you so much, Angela and PYLV!!
