October 2024 Student of the Month: Paola
Tell us about yourself?
I am originally from Arizona and moved to Las Vegas, NV where I became a registered nurse. I became a nurse thinking I would want to help laboring moms or become a NICU nurse. However, my passion in nursing shifted to case management, helping the senior population. I am blessed to have been able to find my passion within nursing. I am currently a nurse case manager and assist Medicare seniors after their hospital discharge.
When did you start taking classes with PYLV?
I started taking prenatal yoga classes when I was 8 weeks along. I wanted to stay active and work on my flexibility!
What have you learned since taking classes with PYLV?
I am so grateful to have learned so much from attending prenatal classes with PYLV. I have learned how to breathe properly, whether I am just at home or when I am doing a class. I also have really enjoyed meeting other parent moms and learning from their experiences. Meeting and learning from other moms has helped me become prepared for my pregnancy journey. I have also learned about community resources by attending PYLV.
What is your favorite yoga pose?
Lately, I have really enjoyed downward dog. I like that the pose relieves tension from my back while also helping me stretch and breathe.
How has your practice impact your parenting?
My practice has helped me with my parenting by helping me have more patience and relax more often. I have learned how to practice more mindfulness and breath work, which I have really enjoyed and know will pay off later on.
What would you tell a new parent considering taking prenatal or baby & me yoga classes?
I highly recommend taking prenatal and /or baby classes because we learn so much from the classes and attendees. I thought the best way to learn is from real-life experiences. Parents are also able to bond and become friends with each other.
I am so lucky I was able to find PYLV and attend. I look forward to attending the baby and me classes later on when my baby girl is here! Consider to at least take one class and you will be joining many more! See you there!
