Carolina

Tell us about yourself?

My name is Carolina, I’m a 29 year old Vegas resident and new mom to a son, Gabriel. I was originally born in Colombia, but moved to Las Vegas when I was 7 years old so I’m essentially a Vegas local. Upon graduating high school, I attended Rutgers University for my undergraduate degree. I then moved to Belgium and attended KU Leuven in pursuit of a Masters in European Studies focused on transnational and global perspectives. I moved back to Las Vegas upon reconnecting with my now husband and former high school classmate. We’ve been married almost 2 years and our son Gabriel is 9-months old, and taking care of Gabriel is currently my day job as I am a homemaker.

When did you start taking classes with PYLV?

I started taking classes in February of 2023 when I was about 2 months pregnant. Angela made it so easy to get started and I loved that I could start with zoom classes, especially as I was battling severe morning sickness during my first trimester. I was then able to attend classes in person after the morning sickness subsided, and thanks to Angela it was easy to shift from zoom to in person classes. I always felt very welcomed.

What have you learned since taking classes with PYLV?

The classes have helped immensely in several areas I struggled with as a “go go go” type of person, such as controlled breathing/relaxation and connecting with my body during pregnancy.

What is your favorite yoga pose?

My favorite yoga pose is the child’s pose. In the beginning of my pregnancy, I struggled to find comfortability in the pose. But, as my pregnancy progressed as well as postpartum, I find the pose so relaxing and enjoyable now.

How has your practice impact your parenting?

My practice has allowed me to slow down and enjoy the moments I have with Gabriel. To be more patient and take deep breaths when I get overwhelmed. It also helped me connect more with my baby and with other parents. It’s makes a huge difference knowing you are not alone in your parenthood journey and that there other people going through what you are going through.

What would you tell a new parent considering taking prenatal or baby & me yoga classes?

Do it! It’s so worth it, from just getting started with prenatal to postpartum and starting to exercise again. The classes are extremely helpful with keeping your body strong and healthy leading up to birth, and a great way to ease yourself into postpartum workouts. Essentially, it’s great for every level and everyone can get something out of the classes. As a bonus, everyone is super nice and welcoming, creating a strong sense of community between all us moms
